The Mystery Room
Problem Solving, Acting, Improvisation, Writing \ Any age group between 10- 13 yrs
In this class, each student will act as a character in a larger mystery, stuck in a room with other ‘characters’ where together, clues will be found, motives will be questioned, and maps analyzed to solve a larger mystery. Students will need to be creative as they try to discern red herrings from real clues as they follow trails of evidence to come to a conclusion. We will play various improv games that will hone our storytelling skills and ability to think on our feet. We will also dabble in creative writing as students delve into their characters psyche, develop backstories and even write their own mysteries. Throughout the class, we will be using critical thinking, creative problem solving and collaboration to investigate and solve mysteries - acting, creating and having fun as we go!
The Great American Road Trip
Geography, Writing, Math, Life skills \ 10 - 13yrs
Young travelers, get ready for an adventure! During this class, we will embark on a figurative journey through the 50 states of America - in an RV! That means choosing an RV according to a given budget, tracking our expenses, saving up our salaries (we have remote jobs!) and understanding the logistics of getting from place to place. As we make our way through the states, we will be learning about the culture, nature and history that characterizes each state. We will learn how to research and present information effectively and will document our thoughts and experiences with frequent postcards home. While we make our way through the country, we will encounter all sorts of mishaps like ghost towns in Nevada, hurricanes in Florida and bear encounters in Alaska, prompting us to problem solve and think critically. We will be researching, writing, calculating and presenting as we go on this trip of a lifetime!
The Novelists’ Collective

Writing a novel is a fun project for students to challenge themselves, rapidly enhance their writing skills and increase their confidence and motivation in writing while basking in the joy of storytelling. Each workshop will include creative exercises that will help us develop complex characters and an unpredictable plot as well as peer-editing sessions from which we will receive invaluable feedback on our pieces and help us cultivate an editor’s eye. Writing a novel does not have to be a lonely endeavor anymore - this group will serve to provide the support and tools that we need to plan, write and, one day, publish our novels!

We will dock in ports from countries in Africa to science stations in Antarctica, getting a glimpse of the lifestyle, nature and people in various places. As with any journey, there will be bumps along the way where students will need to think on their feet to solve. Students will also document their learning through the stories of the mishaps, fun days and new places they visit. By the end of this, class students will gain a wider perception of other countries, collect interesting information from language to religion, and understand the differences and nuances of cultures beyond us. All aboard!
